This piece was allowed to form a woody, deep red, mushroom fruit body, and then begin to send out mushroom pins.
The piece is uncured, meaning that the mycelial roots are inert, but still alive. Under normal fine art conservation conditions it will maintain the current appearance, but it could also be encouraged to grow into a new mycelial colony in a garden or terrarium.
